Enter bird data
Many of our program Users ask how to start working with the program in the best way. For a man who doesn't work with computers everyday even the simplest functions may be complicated. Our manual seems to be not helpful in 100% for the beginners. In this part I will try to explain the best I can how to learn to use the program well very fast. I think it will be helpful or everyone.
1) Run PLO. After the first running and earlier giving your personal Unclock Code that was given you by e-mail, go to File menu exactly to User Info.
2) In the opened window User Info there is your loft's name visible. Click Edit button and type your data in Edition fields. Remember that in all reports and pedigrees printed by the program, your loft's name, 3 address fields from User info window and your phone number and e-mail address will be seen. If you want your name and surname to be seen on the reports and pedigrees, to this:
a. In first address field enter your name and surname
b. In second and third address field enter your address
After saving all information click Save and close User Ino window.
3) From File menu choose Options position. In Options window enter all things that you will be using in the program. Below are some examples which you can use, personally I recommend using those numbers as your work with the program will be more comfortable. However it's your decision.
After giving all necessary numbers, choose the currency and data forat that you want to use.
Bird colours, strains, eye, eye colours etc. are all chosen from drop-down pick lists. This is the place where you construct the contents of these lists. The lists are in alphabetic order.
To add a new value to the pick list, click the radio button and enter the new value in the entry field. Click either Add button. Save will keep the value and add it to the grid.
To delete a value, click on it in the grid then click the Delete button. You will be asked to confirm the deletion and you will not be allowed to delete a value that has already been used in any bird details.
To choose the currency click Radio button select currency then edit and choose the currency from Pik list and finish with clicking Save button.
To choose the data format click radio button, then edit, choose select date format from Pik list and click Save.
To choose distance unit click radio button select distance unit, then edit, choose miles or kilometers and tehn save.
Note:
each entered number can be removed in any moment by marking it on the list and clicking delete button
After adding all the things you can close options window by clicking close button.
4) From breeding menu choose Bird info position. Now you start adding all the birds to the database. Remmeber that if save the new bird to the database, you won't be able to change his ring number. You can edit all features like colour, strain, hatch date, but the ring number cannot be changed. If you save a wrong ring number you can only remove it from the database in bird list window. Entering data of your birds should be started enter your breeders and those that do not exist in the loft but are present on the pedigrees of your birds. Many users are confused with that last information, however data of that birds are needed to print a full pedigree of your own bird. Below is a quick way how to enter a full pedigree of an example bird:
I will write you exactly how do you have to enter your birds. If you have a pedigree of a bird AU 04 NPC 22345
AU 00 NPC 24500

AU 99 NPC 22100
AU 02 NPC 23401
AU 98 NPC 22600
You haven't already got the grandparents of this bird in the loft and his parents are in stock loft you do this:
1/ Enter the pigeon AU 00 NPC 24500 in Bird information window. You fill in all the fields in this widnow and it's status you mark as Archive and click Save
bird button. Next click Add new bird button
2/ In Add birds window you enter the pigeon AU 00 NPC 23100. You fill in all the fields in this window and you mark it's status as Archive and click Save
bird button. Next click Add new bird button
3/ You enter the pigeon AU 99 NPC 22100 inBird information window. You fill in all the fields in this window and mark it's status as Archive and click Save
bird button. Next click Add new bird button
4/ In Bird information window you enter the bird AU 99 NPC 22600 . You fill in all the fields in this window and you mark it's status as Archive and click Save

5/ In Bird information window you enter the pigeon AU 03 NPC 23400, it's Sire and Dam you choose from the pick list, you mark it's status as Stock and click Save
bird button. Next click Add new bird button
6/ In Bird information window you enter the bird AU 02 NPC 23401, it's Sire and Dam you choose from the pick list , you mark it's status as Stock and click Save
bird button. Next click Add new bird button
7/ Now you enter to the program the pigeon AU 04 NPC 22345 and you choose it's parents from the pick list like before, you mark it's status as Racing.
If while entering data of a new bird you find out that there is no appropriate colour or race on the list, on the right of each field you have Add button so you can use it to add some information that you need - you do not have to go to Options menu.
If the bird that you are entering was bought, mark Check Box Purchased and choose the name of the breeder that you bought the bird from. If there is no name on the pik list, click add breeder button and enter data of the breeder. Then give the date of transaction, the amount of money and save it to the database. The same is when you sell a bird, you have only to choose the new owner.
After each entering of new birds, before finishing the program work do data backup. Remmeber that it is the most important thing to do. I you have the data backup, you will always be able to recover your data in case of some viruses or damaging the hard disc. Do the backup on the hard disc and on a CD. If you have finished entering your birds, close bird information window.
5) From breeding menu choose Birds list position. In that window you can view all birds saved in your database. You can create birds lists considering sex, hatch year and many other. All birds participating in races and breeders you can find in Birds list window. To find out the program better, test all possible options of creating your birds lists. After clicking Archive birds radio button you will find all birds that are not still existing in your loft but that are saved in your database. Remember that if you sel a bird or if it dies, you should edit its data and change the status on archive.
If you want to remove a bird from the list, select bird on the list, click twice or press enter key and confirm its removal. Remember that every bird after removing it from the list is removed fromt he database and won't be visible on any list. To use Bird race ino option, in race information window in racing menu you have to enter all information concerning your bird races.
